Sheriff: 2 dead, 4 injured at Putnam County drag strip

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ga. — Sheriff’s authorities are investigating after a deadly shooting Saturday night in Putnam County.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills tells Channel 2 Action News two men died in a shooting at the Headhunters Motor Club Dragway in Eatonton.

Sills said four other people were injured.

Channel 2 Action News learned the men, who were co-workers at a nearby sawmill, got into a heated argument at work then crossed paths behind the drag way.

The sheriff said they exchanged words, then punches, then pulled out guns.

Sills said the co-workers, Devonta Dunn, 24 of Sparta and Deion Havior, 23, of Milledgeville, died in the shooting.

A 35-year-old, 33-year-old, 18-year-old and 8-year-old were also shot and taken to local hospitals. The 8-year-old has already been treated and released, Sills said.

One witnesses said he saw people run, then gunshots.

“When I seen that I started running, heard multiple gunshots and I just wanted to get out of there,” said Antwan West.

Zavier Reid’s 18-year-old daughter Zakeriyah is one of the victims who was injured after a bullet pierced her leg.

“She looked down and realized she had been shot in the knee,” Reid said.
