ATLANTA, Ga. - Investigators searched by air and by foot Sunday afternoon for a suspect wanted in a gas station robbery that happened on Powers Ferry Road off I-285.
Atlanta and Cobb County police detectives teamed up to find the suspect, who ditched a getaway vehicle on I-75 and Northside Parkway. Channel 2 Action News covered developments near the Cobb-Fulton line, where officers looked for one of two suspects accused of robbing the Texaco station.
Police said they spotted the men shortly after the crime.
The other suspect, who tried to flee officers on foot, is in custody. The other sped off, eventually abandoning his vehicle at I-75 and Northside Parkway. Georgia DOT traffic cameras showed police towing that vehicle away as their search for the suspect shifted to the ground.
A Cobb County police source told Channel 2's Ashley Swann at some point, the suspect was involved in a shootout with police and may be injured. Residents who live in the area said they hope the search ends peacefully.
"You never know what an individual will or won't do if he or she is backed up or pinned against a wall. They could probably take a hostage or endanger lives," said Otis Durden Jr.
Investigators called off their active search, but they're still keeping an eye out for the suspect, believed to be armed and dangerous.
