Rapper accused of robbing Conyers bank

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Police are connecting a rapper from Cincinnati to a bank robbery in Rockdale County. Detectives say the rapper came to metro Atlanta to further his music career.

Detectives say Kevin Simons and his girlfriend came into town last week on a Greyhound bus. Police believe Simons robbed a bank a day or two later.

Conyers police say a YouTube video features Simons as a rap artist called "Kevmurda" simulates a bank robbery.

Police say art imitated life when Simons allegedly robbed a Wells Fargo Bank along Georgia 138.

Surveillance video shows a man passing a note to the bank teller. Less than half a minute later, he is handed a packet of cash.

"And even goes as far as to show a hand-drawn drawing in the video of Mr. Simons demanding someone put 'money in the bag', which is language consistent with a robbery," Cpl. Buck Vaughn with Conyers police said.

Detectives say Simons is a member of the Ohio-based 'Heartless Felons' street gang. Police say that when Simons left the bank, he ran across the highway toward a drug store, and then into the trees behind the building.

That's where police dogs found a stash of evidence.

"The pants he was wearing. A pair of sunglasses he was wearing inside the bank. We also located the 'demand note' he provided the teller, and a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun," Vaughn said.

Police say half an hour after the robbery, Simons sent his girlfriend back to the spot where he stashed a gun. Detectives were already there looking, and they arrested Alyssa Williams, 21.

Investigators believe Simons is hiding somewhere in metro Atlanta.
