Roadwork causes traffic nightmare on I-75/85

ATLANTA, Ga. — Construction work is causing some major backups on I-75/85 northbound this weekend.

Channel 2’s Steve Gehlbach went to Langford Parkway in southwest Atlanta, where four left lanes will be closed on Saturday until 6:30 p.m. from Langford Parkway to Central Avenue for pavement work.

Some drivers said they’ve been backed up for miles.

“It was backed up all the way at the airport. That's where we hit the traffic at and we've been in it for about 20 to 30 minutes now. (I) had to get off to get gas. The traffic is showing signs of letting up anytime soon," said Adam Knight.

The lanes are not scheduled to be closed on Sunday.  Additional lane closures are scheduled in the overnight hours on other routes throughout the weekend, weather permitting.

Two right northbound lanes will be closed Saturday and Sunday until 6 p.m. on State Route 400 from I-85 to Sidney Marcus Boulevard.

Various single lane closures will be in place in and around the State Route 400/I-85 Interchange project on routes including the Buford-Spring Connector, Cheshire Bridge Road, Sidney Marcus Boulevard and on State Route 400. Some of these closures are during the day and some are at night.

Overnights, there will be triple lane closures in both directions on I-285 between Roswell Road and West Paces Ferry Road for sign replacements. Some of the closures will be in the three right lanes and some in the three left lanes.  These closures are only scheduled in the overnight hours 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  The lanes will be open during the day.

On I-20 in Douglas County, two left lanes in both directions between Liberty Road and State Route 5 will be closed from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night for concrete slab replacements.

Additionally, there will be rolling lane closures on the interstates across the metro area each night for sweeping operations.

All work is weather permitting.
