Road work could hamper weekend events

ATLANTA — If you are planning on heading downtown over the weekend, you may want to plan an alternate route.

Georgia Department of Transportation said crews will be working on the Downtown Connector northbound at Martin Luther King Jr., Drive in the overnight hours and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

Also, DOT crews will have up to three lanes of Interstate 85 closed in each direction all weekend for the continuing work on the I-85/SR 400 Interchange Project.

"I-85 around 400 would be the place to avoid," said GDOT Metro District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle. "A close second and third are I-285 west around (SR) 400 and I-20 east at Wesley Chapel."

On Interstate 285, up to three left westbound lanes will be closed all weekend for bridge work between Roswell Road and State Route 400, and various lane closures will be occurring in both directions all the way around the Perimeter for drain cleaning.

Also, two right eastbound lanes will be closed all weekend on I-20 from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road for bridge joint work.
