Rain in the forecast today for the first time in weeks

ATLANTA — There's rain in the forecast for the first time in weeks.

On Monday night, Severe Weather Team 2 urged viewers to keep that umbrella handy because scattered showers and sprinkles were in the forecast for parts of Georgia.

A Flash Flood Warning was issued for parts of Floyd, Gordon, Chattooga and Walker counties earlier today until 5:30 p.m. Up to 3 inches of rain is possible for those areas.

It'll be a similar situation on Tuesday. Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said scattered showers and storms are expected tomorrow with highs into the middle 80s.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Karen Minton tracked rain this morning in metro Atlanta as  drivers headed to work and students went back to school.

Minton used the most powerful radar in the country, StormTracker 2HD, to track the showers as they moved through Carroll County and in parts of Douglas and Cobb counties on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

“We’ve got plenty of moisture coming in, that means more cloud cover for us and it’ll also hold our temperatures back,” Minton said.

The chance for rain remains through the week but goes up to nearly 70 percent Wednesday and Thursday.
