Troopers: Pregnant woman involved in chase had kids in car

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A pregnant woman led state troopers on a chase through Clayton County with two children in her car, officials said.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper stopped 21-year-old Marquita Clerk for speeding in a school zone on Lamar Hutchinson Parkway on Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokesman.

Troopers told Channel 2's Liz Artz that Clerk sped away during the traffic stop and led police on a chase that eventually ended on the ramp from Mt. Zion Boulevard to Interstate 75 after two PIT maneuvers.

Clerk is accused of causing two other accidents during the chase.

Troopers said she is five months pregnant and she had a 3- and 4-year-old child in the car, only one of which was properly restrained. NewsChopper 2 showed the children sitting on the police car as police investigated the crime scene.

Clerk is wanted in East Point for probation violation on a disorderly conduct charge.

She faces more than a dozen new charges following Wednesday's chase.
