Powerball jackpot climbs to $425 million

ATLANTA — The Powerball jackpot is now $425 million dollars.

Georgia Lottery officials told Channel 2 Action News that the jackpot grew by $25 million on Tuesday after a surge in ticket sales.

Channel 2 Action News is the only place in metro Atlanta that you can watch the live drawing on Wednesday night at 11 p.m., right before the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat.

The current prize is the third-largest Powerball jackpot ever and the fourth-largest lottery prize on record.

In May an 84-year-old Florida woman won a record $590.5 million Powerball jackpot. The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $656 in March 2012.

No matter how many people play the game, the odds of matching all six numbers remains 1 in 175.2 million.

Powerball is played in Georgia and 42 other states along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
