Teen drowns in small lake in McDonough

MCDONOUGH, Ga. — Emergency crews are investigating a drowning at a lake in McDonough.

Divers were called to Lake Dow after a report that a teenage boy jumped from a dock into the water and did not resurface, according to Capt. Sabrina Puckett with the Henry County Fire Department.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. rescue crews pulled Benny Davis, 16, from the lake.  Crews said the body was found about 30 feet off a dock on the lake in about 15 feet of water.

Investigators said Davis was visiting the area from Albany. His parents were notified of the drowning and drove to the scene late Monday.

The drowning happened near Pilgreen’s Steakhouse on Lake Dow Road, where signs are posted prohibiting swimming.

“It’s supposed to be for fishing only,” Puckett said about the dock. “No jumping, no diving at any time.”
