Police work to piece together motive behind overnight shootings

ATLANTA — Two different shootings in metro Atlanta have left two people hurt. Each was found in a different location.

Channel 2's Darren Moore learned detectives are not having an easy time connecting the shootings.

Police said the victims are not cooperating, nor are the people who live in the area.

Evidence markers were scattered all over Lakewood Avenue in southeast Atlanta early Friday morning as investigators worked to figure out who shot a man in both his legs.

More than a dozen bullets casings littered the street.

Officers tried talking to several people who were outside, but they claimed they didn't see or hear anything. Investigators also encountered the same situation with one of the victims.

"The victim hasn't been fully truthful as far as letting us know what is exactly going on here. It's quite a number of shell casings, but unfortunately we are not getting a lot of cooperation on it," Capt. Tim Peek with the Atlanta Police Department told Moore.

Police said they also found a second person shot twice in the chest on Phillips Drive, about a mile away from what police believe may be connected to the other shooting on Lakewood Avenue.

Police have no suspects or a motive behind the shootings. Both men were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where they are recovering from their injuries.
