Police ID woman killed in neighborhood shooting

COBB COUNTY — Police have released the name of a woman who died during a neighborhood shooting in Cobb County.

Cobb County police said the 47-year-old victim has been identified as Deirdre Smith, of Austell.

She was struck and killed when gunfire was exchanged during an altercation between two men near Oakhill Circle in Austell.

Investigators said children were also injured in the gunfire.  It wasn’t immediately known if their injuries, which are considered non-life threatening, were caused by bullets or debris.

So far, police have arrested 17-year-old Khalil Kelly, of Austell. He is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond and charged with murder and aggravated assault.
