Police: Teen crime spree ends with crash, shooting of 8-year-old

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police roped off a neighborhood as they searched for teenagers who they said fired shots and hit a girl in their way.

DeKalb County police told Channel 2's Sophia Choi the 8-year-old girl suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK.

Teen crime spree ends with crash, shooting of 8-year-old, police say.

The incident happened on the 3000 block of Clifton Church Road Tuesday morning.

A witness told Choi he saw two groups of teenagers in two separate cars fighting at a BP gas station. That's when he heard gunshots.

Police told Choi teenagers in a white Dodge were shooting at another group of teenagers in another car when bullets hit a black sedan that was just driving down the road.

That's when an 8-year-old girl in the car was shot in the buttocks.

"There was a blue car chasing this white car directly across the street. And there was a young boy sitting in that window with a gun in his hand," John McCrae, a witness to the shooting, told Choi.

We learned the girl is expected to be okay. A neighbor said she saw the white car and the teens driving it, just before they broke into her cousin’s car over the weekend.

"Just Saturday night. And then yesterday when we were over there, there was all kinds of stolen goods in the circle of the driveway.  A necklace with a bracelet, I mean with the tag still on it," she said.

Police believe the white Dodge was stolen. They said they’ve seen a string of stolen cars in the area recently, and they are looking for both groups of teenagers right now.
