Police: Shadowy figure seen peeping into Sandy Springs homes

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are warning a community after several homeowners report a prowler.

Police said the man has been peering in windows, knocking on doors, shining flashlights into homes and it's causing alarm for neighbors.

For more than a year, Alice Crispin said someone's been prowling around her Sandy Springs home.

"Five or six times at least we've had different episodes of hearing someone outside and they'd be gone before the police could actually get here," Crispin.

Crispin showed Channel 2's Mike Petchenik the backyard creek she believes the man is using to get around the neighborhood.

Sandy Springs police are investigating reports from at least half a dozen homeowners in the Riverside neighborhood about the shadowy figure.

"Actually had two incidents in particular which were reported as peeping Tom, someone peeping through the window, knocking on the windows to get the resident's attention."

Sergeant Ron Momon said detectives aren't clear if the man is casing homes to burglarize or if he's just a peeping Tom. Officers met concerned neighbors to offer security screenings of their homes.

"I would say anything out of the ordinary, anything suspicious, give us a call," Momon said.

"If he opens my door the alarm's going to go off. He's got a dog to contend with and some guns in the house," Crispin said.

Police said they've stepped up patrols in the neighborhood, as well. They're asking residents in the area to keep an eye out for anything and to call them.
