Lockdown lifted at Lilburn school after search for possible gunman

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A lockdown has been lifted for G.H. Hopkins Elementary School in Lilburn after students reported a man with a gun near campus.

Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh was at the scene.

She was told some kids saw a male with a gun walking around the soccer field near the school. Gwinnett police conducted a search.

Gwinnett County Schools officials said police found an orange squirt gun outside the school. It is unknown if the squirt gun was related to the incident.

Police later determined there was no threat to students.

Gerrod Williams, a parent who was at the school to pick up his daughter for a doctors appointment, said he was glad police responded to the call. Williams said he wishes police would have told him more during the investigation, but he's relieved that everyone is safe.

The lockdown was lifted just before 2 p.m.
