Police search prompts school lockdown

FAIRBURN, Ga. — Police are looking for car thieves after a hit-and-run crash Monday morning.

Fairburn police said a white SUV was stolen after it was left running while unoccupied. The thieves then crashed it on Highway 92 and Dodson Road, but kept going, police said. The car was later found abandoned near Langston Hughes High School.

The school was locked down just after 9 a.m. while police searched for the suspects, Fulton County Schools spokeswoman Susan Hale said. The lockdown was lifted around 10:30 a.m., but Fairburn police said they're still looking for the thieves.

Police have not said whether they've identified suspects but said the thieves are "probably juveniles."
