Police search for man who approached teen at Kmart

CARROLLTON, Ga. — Carrollton police are searching for a man they said approached a teenage boy asking him for sex acts.

Investigators released surveillance video of the man taken from a Kmart on Bankhead Highway Sept. 28.

Police told Channel 2's Dave Huddleston they are looking for a white man in his 30s or 40s with brown hair.

"I think he inquired if he needed a ride, and he indicated he did not, and then he solicited him for a sexual act. And with him being juvenile, we really want to get him behind bars," Officer Glenn Lyle said.

Lyle said what makes the man dangerous is that he appeared to not care that other people were around when he approached the teenager in a busy store.

"I can't imagine this is the guy's first time approaching a complete stranger. It really alarmed us how bold this guy was at approaching this child," Lyle said.

Huddleston talked to shoppers at the Kmart, and they were surprised by the recent incident.

Curtis Wilson lives in Carrollton and drives a truck across country. He said crimes like this have him turning down jobs so he can be closer to home.

"That's one of the reasons I'm back here at home so that I can protect my daughter," Wilson said.

Lyle said they really want to catch the guy, and if you know anything about the incident, you're asked to call 770-838-STOP or email them.
