Police release few details in Riverdale shooting

RIVERDALE, Ga. — Police have been tight-lipped about a shooting that took place in a home near Riverdale.

Officers spent the day Tuesday going in the home and back out, as they investigated the shooting.

The police presence left neighbors on edge, surprised that a crime would occur at a home they've had no problems with.

"Very unusual. Especially to come down the hill to walk to the bus stop and to see yellow tape. Yellow tape to me means something happened," neighbor Beverly Mercer said.

Clayton County police didn't release many details .

"There was a shooting inside the residence. And at this time the victim is stable, in stable condition at a metro Atlanta hospital, and we're investigating all leads at this time," Capt. Tina Daniel said.

Police wouldn't say who was shot or if someone is custody. Channel 2s Tom Jones asked if there was a break-in.

"We are still investigating all leads at this time," Daniel responded.

"I really didn't hear anything. Hard to believe," neighbor Luis Montoya said.

He was at his grandmother's home next door and said he didn't hear any shots.

Mercer said the home was the last one she expected to hear about in a shooting.

"I'm surprised because it's very quiet at that house all the time," she said. "Even when they're hanging out in the garage they're not loud. They don't get obnoxious."

Police say they hope to release more information once they wrap up interviews with witnesses.
