Police: Officer fired for performing sex act in patrol car

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News was there minutes after a Clayton County police officer was fired for recording himself performing a sex act in his patrol unit and sending it to women.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones has been following an internal investigation into this matter.

Jones sought reaction from now former county police officer Joshua Nicholson.

"What do you have to say about these allegations? Is it true? Jones asked Nicholson. "Mr. Nicholson did you take photographs of yourself performing a sex act?"

Nicholson was in no mood to talk, however, minutes after Police Chief Mike Register told him he was out of a job.

“I just want to get your side of the story,” Jones asked.

"I have no comment, sir," Nicholson replied.

While Nicholson did not want to comment, the police chief had plenty to say.

Register wants the public to know this type of behavior won't be tolerated.

"This was at the level that he needed to be terminated," Register said.

Nicholson is out of a job after police received an anonymous tip that he was taking pictures and videos of himself on duty, in his uniform, and in his patrol car involved in a sex act.

Police say he also visited adult websites to meet and text women while he was on duty.

"He took full responsibility," Register said.

After an internal investigation, police say Nicholson didn't deny the allegations.

"Did he try and resign?" Jones asked.

"No, but I would not have accepted a resignation," Register said.

Nicholson was fired for conduct unbecoming of an officer and disgraceful conduct.

Clayton County citizens say the chief made the right to decision.

"From where I sit he should be fired," one citizen said.  "He needs someone to pray over him."

The chief wants the public to know their trust in him and his officers is very important.

"I'm not going to tolerate an officer violating that public trust," Register said.

The sexting incident comes right after Register asked all police personnel to follow these four simple rules:

  • Treat everyone with respect.
  • See a problem as an opportunity to find a solution.
  • Be a positive representative on and off duty.
  • Serve the community as you would want your family member to be served.
