Police: MARTA bus illegal turn caused crash

A MARTA bus and a car crashed in south Fulton County Tuesday night. Police said the crash sent six people to the hospital.

Officials drove the bus away from the intersection with a hardly noticeable dent in it. The small car involved had extensive damage.

Paramedics transported the driver of the small car by helicopter to Atlanta Medical Center in downtown Atlanta.

A police spokesperson said the middle-aged man was heading northbound on Roosevelt Highway when the MARTA bus "illegally turned in front of him."

A female passenger in the car and four passengers on the bus were taken by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Thomas said there were no life-threatening injuries reported for the five passengers transported to Grady.

Channel 2 Action News saw passengers waiting on the bus more than an hour after the accident, while investigators took pictures and gathered evidence outside their windows.

Fulton County police told Thomas it will likely be a day or two before any charges are filed.
