Police: Man returning from store shot dead in street

ATLANTA — Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man in the middle of a street late Wednesday night.

Atlanta police told Channel 2’s Darryn Moore they got a call of shots fired on Pinehurst Terrace in southwest Atlanta late Wednesday night.

They said they found 33-year-old Larry Cooper lying in the street.

The homicide commander told Moore it was not a random shooting.

“The victim was the intended target,” Lt. Charles Hampton with the Atlanta Police Department said.

Investigators said they believe Cooper was heading home.

“The victim lives in the area not far from where he was found and we believe he may have gone to the store earlier in the evening and was walking back home,” Hampton said.

Investigators said they only have a description of the suspect's vehicle but did not release details yet.
