Police make arrest in I-285 drunk driving crash

DUNWOODY, Ga. — A drunken driving accident on Interstate 285 west near Chamblee Dunwoody Road left two people on ventilators, authorities told Channel 2 Action News.

Evelyn P. Ngoboworigha, 57, and her passenger Stroyer T. Butler, 35, suffered life-threatening injuries after the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis they were riding was rear-ended by a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 26-year-old Francisco Rodriguez-Vazquez, police said.  Police said Rodriguez-Vasquez fled the scene on foot after the accident, which occurred Sunday at about 2:15 p.m.

Rodriguez-Vasquez was apprehended and is now in the DeKalb County jail.

Police said Vazquez had been drinking and does not have a driver's license.

The victims are in intensive care at area hospitals.
