DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police tell Channel 2 Action News they have identified the suspect in the shooting of a 2-year-old outside a Kroger store.

Police have identified the man as Chazerel Burton. Burton is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of damage to property.

The shooting happened Wednesday around 1 p.m. outside the Kroger store on North Hairston Road in Stone Mountain.

DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander said a good Samaritan witnessed someone being robbed and stepped in to intervene. He and the suspected robber again crossed paths in front of the Kroger and the video shows their confrontation followed by gunshots.

Video obtained by Channel 2's Tom Regan shows the skirmish and a series of rapid gunshots before the child's parents carry him into the store.

The child is in stable condition.
