Brother, sister shot outside south DeKalb restaurant

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a double shooting that happened in the parking lot near the U.S. Deli restaurant in south DeKalb County.

The two victims are a brother and his sister, according to witnesses, left bleeding in the parking lot.

"It was just chaos everyone was everywhere," said Jimmy Sanders, who works at the U.S. Deli at Rockbridge Road and South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road.

Sanders told Channel 2's Carl Willis that the man was shot in the hand, while his sister sustained a gunshot to the head.

"Her brother asked us to get her some water we tried to give her some water," Sanders said. "She was right there on the car blood going on her face he picked her up carried her over that way."

DeKalb County detectives went inch by inch over the scene. Willis saw them key in on potential evidence, including an article of clothing that was left behind.

"All this transpired in the parking lot and early investigation leads us to believe that an argument ensued between two parties and erupted in gunfire leaving the two victims struck," said Capt. S.R. Fore of the DeKalb County Police Department.

Police could not confirm the possible motive but Sanders said he believed the shooter was looking for money.

"He wanted some cash. She didn't have it so he didn't like that so he took her shot her in the head and shot her brother in the arm," Sanders said.

It was sudden violence with dozens of people in nearby restaurants and shopping in the center.

"I was thinking dang that could have been me. It's sad," witness Daniel Mintion told Willis.

"It was disturbing. None of us should have seen that," Sanders said.
