Police investigate third break-in at Holly Springs gun store

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a break-in at a local gun store for the third time this year.

Holly Springs police said a burglar used a gold Dodge Durango to break into the high-caliber gun store Wednesday morning through a window.

Channel 2 Action News was at the store as a crew worked to fix the broken glass.

The burglar got away with some items, but police would not say exactly what.

"The wrong people getting their hand on weapons is definitely not a good thing," customer Joel Bailey said.

They said these kinds of crimes are getting increasingly worrisome.

“Our community has seen these kinds of crimes in the last year, and we've been working with other agencies here in the state of Georgia to associate information with similar incidents,” Holly Springs police Detective Greg Bettis said.

It is the third time a burglar has broken into the gun store.

Channel 2 Action News obtained surveillance video from the first break-in in March when police said two men used a large rock to smash the front window.

They were in and out in 16 seconds.

A second break-in this year happened just a month later in April.

Police said they do not know if it is the same people breaking in time after time, but the store owner has increased security with each burglary.

"We have spent an enormous amount of money in the last year putting in state of the art items, and every time you do something, the criminals counter with something else," store owner Sean Jerguson said.

Police are going through surveillance video from the latest break-in.
