Police investigate officer-involved shooting in midtown

ATLANTA — There are new developments in an officer-involved shooting in Midtown Atlanta.

Channel 2 Action News got a look at the iPad video taken just seconds after the shooting near a cluster of popular restaurants and bars early Thursday morning.

Ch. 2’s Ryan Young got a copy of the video where you can hear the police officers shouting to clear the scene.

“Back up out of the street, let’s go,” an officer is heard shouting.

The video, shot by a Channel 2 Action News viewer, showed Atlanta police working to secure the scene after a police officer opened fire on two men in a parking lot near several clubs and bars on Crescent Street.

"I really don't even know how it started. Cause it just came out of nowhere. We were walking to the car and next thing you know, ‘pop, pop, pop, pop,’” Witness Valery Clayton said.

The video showed one officer with his gun out and a Grady EMS ambulance pulling into the scene. Police said a fight got out of hand when a man pulled a gun.

“One guy in the BMW had a lead pipe, the other guy had a gun and shot in the air two or three times. The cop came around the corner shot him and the other guy,” A viewer, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

Atlanta police said two guns were recovered on the scene. One man was shot in the leg and another man is in critical condition. It was unclear who shot the man in the leg.  The officer was not injured.

The shooting remains under investigation.
