Police conduct drug bust, 2 people charged

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga — After conducting  a search at a Cherokee County home, police arrested and charged two people with drug posession.

Marlena Shar Darby, 19, was charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of Xanax and possession of hashish on Friday.

Police also arrested was 25-year-old Kurt Steven Wisehart. Wisehart is charged with possession of cocaine and hashish.

Agents believe the drugs came from California. They tracked 10 pounds of marijuana to the home and discovered three additional pounds of marijuana, several firearms and $5,796.

Agents also discovered a variety of exotic animals including a Tegu. Tegus are banned in the United States for their aggressive nature and their damage to the ecosystem.

Police say additional charges may come out of the possession of the Tegu and some of the other animals.

Police are still searching for a third suspect, Matt Quinn, who was charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of Xanax, hashish and psilocybin mushrooms.

No bond was issued for Darby, but Wisehart has a bond set for $22,400.

The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad made the arrest -- a joint task force working in Cherokee County to investigate drug related violations.

Participating agencies include the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, the Holly Springs Police Department, the Ball Ground Police Department, the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia State Patrol.
