Police chase clogs I-285 EB

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Police are actively searching for a motorcyclist who fled on foot as Georgia State Patrol troopers tried to stop him near Powers Ferry Road Friday afternoon.

GSP said a Capitol police officer tried to stop the motorcyclist for an illegal turn, but he led troopers on a pursuit from Forsyth and Marietta Streets downtown to Interstate 285 at New Northside Drive. The driver collided with two patrol cars and fled on foot, GSP said.

Sandy Springs police said its officers along with GSP troopers have set up a perimeter on the 6100 block of Powers Ferry Road. K-9 units and officers are attempting to locate the motorcyclist.

News Chopper 2 reporter Jason Durden said the motor vehicle part of the chase came to an end on Interstate 285 eastbound at Powers Ferry Road. He said there are big delays in the area.

Channel 2 reporters Ross Cavitt and Mike Petchenik are at the scene of this developing story.
