ATLANTA - U.S. marshals have captured a man who police said robbed at least a dozen convenience stores across metro Atlanta.
Police arrested Lewis Bernard Flagg in Decatur on Wednesday night.
Last week, Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik attended a meeting in Sandy Springs in which detectives compared notes on a rash of robberies in Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fayette, Douglas, Rockdale, Douglas and Henry counties.
Detectives watched surveillance video from inside a Cobb County QT convenience store taken June 18 that showed a man walk into the store, pretend to buy something and then rob the cashier.
"In our case, he racked the handgun, pointed at the clerk, said, 'You know what time it is,'" Detective J.T. Williams of the Sandy Springs Police Department told the assembled detectives.
During the meeting, a Fayette county detective recognized Flagg’s voice in the Cobb County recording. The detective revealed he’d interviewed Flagg about lottery tickets stolen during a store holdup there, but at the time, didn’t suspect he was the robber.
Detectives identified Flagg as their possible suspect, but said they needed to do some more legwork before arresting him.
Police told Petchenik Flagg is being held in the Rockdale County jail. Stay tuned to Channel 2 Action news for the latest developments in this case.
