Family, children held at gunpoint during Buckhead home invasion

ATLANTA — Police are investigating a home invasion at a multimillion-dollar home where a person inside was kidnapped and taken to an ATM.

Officers say the incident happened on Paces Ridge Road, off Mount Paran Road, in northwest Atlanta early Tuesday morning.

Atlanta police say two men with guns burst into the home through an unlocked door. They then held the family, including three children, at gunpoint as they searched the home for jewelry and money.

"It almost makes me think that they knew the house, that they knew the family, they knew what they were looking for, they knew they were secluded back here and they…I guess they just weren't afraid," neighbor Deborah Donghi told Channel 2’s Aaron Diamant.

Police say one gunman also forced the homeowner to drive to an ATM to withdraw cash. Officers say the robbers then let the victim go back home.

Investigators have not released the names of the victims, but property records show the home is owned by local financial executive Scott Meyerhoff.

Donghi told Diamant someone tried breaking into her home several years ago and more recently had someone climb over her security fence and break into her car.

"We have four dogs, so I'm hoping that that will be a deterrent, you know, someone who comes up to our house will hear the dogs bark and maybe, you know, run away," Meyerhoff said.

Officers said no one was hurt in the incident.
