Police: Boy drowns after being knocked into filthy pool

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A 4-year-old drowned at a Clayton County home where officers found dozens of marijuana plants.

Police said the 4-year-old Donovan Daniels was knocked into a dirty pool at a home on Winding Way Lane Wednesday evening.

Someone at the home called 911 and four police officers jumped into the pool to try to save the boy, but said it was hard to find him in the filthy water.

Donovan was eventually pulled from the pool and pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Emergency officials said they smelled marijuana at the home, and a subsequent search yielded 40 to 60 marijuana plants.

Harold Carter, 59, and Robert Carter, 64, were arrested and charged with misdemeanor posession of marijuana and distribution of marijuana. They admitted to being under the influence of marijuana when the child fell in the pool.

Police said the boy and his family were in town from out of state visiting relatives at the home.
