Inmate dead, deputy injured after shooting in Nashville

Authorities rushed to the scene of a shooting inside a mall in Nashville Wednesday afternoon.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities in Nashville, Tennessee, responded to a shooting involving an inmate and a deputy Wednesday afternoon.

According to ABC affiliate WKRN, she shooting happened at Vanderbilt's 100 Oaks campus.

WKRN reports the inmate was being transported when he grabbed the deputy's gun and fired it.

A second deputy helping with the transport returned fire and killed the prisoner, according to WKRN.

The deputy was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
