Armed robbers steal $10,000 from Benihana

Atlanta police are searching for three robbers seen on video holding up restaurant workers at gunpoint and stealing cash from a safe.
The men stole money from a Benihana restaurant on Peachtree Road in Buckhead on Aug. 10 around 11:30 p.m.
According to witnesses and surveillance video, one man stayed behind the building, one man pulled open the unlocked back door and another man ran inside the store.
In the video, it only takes about one minute for one of the gunmen to enter the restaurant’s office where the manager was working.
Police say the robber then repeatedly hit the manager on the head with a gun. Then the robber threatened the victim and forced him to unlock the safe.
“He gets an excess of $10,000 from the safe and they flee through the rear of the location,” said Atlanta police Sgt. Carven Tyus.
The restaurant manager was taken to Piedmont Hospital for a cut to the head and has since been released.
Police suspect the robbery was an inside job. Detectives said the robbers look like they rehearsed the heist, and police said the men barely talked to each other during the robbery.
According to restaurant workers, the men were also hiding nearby just before the robbery.
“They were hiding in the bushes to begin with. The workers said they were all sitting around waiting for the manager to close up when the guys come out of the bushes on them,” said Tyus.
Police said they have run out of leads on the case and are asking for help from the community.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for tips leading to the arrest and indictment of the men.
