Police: 2 shot while driving down street

ATLANTA — Two people were shot while riding in a car early Wednesday morning.

Atlanta police said gunfire rang out on Humphries Street in southwest Atlanta around 12:30 a.m.

Police found two people shot inside a car on Coleman Street a couple of blocks away.

"They were driving down the street and someone opened fire on their vehicle, possibly a mistaken identity," Capt. Tim Peek of the Atlanta Police Department said.

The victims are at Grady Memorial hospital and are expected to recover. One suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body, and the other was shot in the shoulder.

They told police they did not recognize the people who shot at them from the sidewalk, but police said there were plenty of witnesses and they are working to identify the gunmen.
