Police: 1 dead in Rockmart plant explosion

ROCKMART, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has confirmed that one person has died in an explosion at a Rockmart plant Thursday morning.

Rockmart police said the blast happened at the Meggit Polymers and Composites plant around 8:30 a.m.

According to the Polk County Coroner’s Officer, Elaine Davidson, 56, was inside a room where a pressurized boiler exploded. Investigators said the door of the boiler blew off and hit Davidson. She was transported to Polk County Hospital where she died.

The explosion happened in a building off from the main building. She was the only person in the room. No one else was injured.

The plant, which makes fuel tanks for aircrafts, is located on 669 Goodyear Street.
