South Fulton pizza shop fails inspection twice

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A College Park restaurant failed an inspection this month and then actually did worse on a re-inspection.

After failing twice, Channel 2's Carol Sbarge learned Best Pizza just received a score of 96 after another inspection.

The south Fulton restaurant is known for its pizza and wings. But Best Pizza recently had far from the best inspection scores.

On Sept. 18, it scored a 66, which is unsatisfactory. Two days later during a re-inspection, it scored even worse with a 53.

One of the violations the inspector observed included an open bag of sugar on the floor next to the restroom. Other violations included flies in the kitchen, observed improper separation of raw animal foods, observed prep cooked chicken with no date marking on a large container and observed peeling paint above the walk-in cooler area.

Best Pizza had two failing inspections in a row and it then closed temporarily. A neighbor in the shopping center said there was a sign up indicating they were doing some maintenance.

Sbarge went to the restaurant on Camp Creek Parkway to talk to management about the violations.

The owner was not there and so far, has not returned Sbarge's call. Since the 53, Best Pizza has been re-inspected and now has a 96, which is an "A" rating.
