Police: 4-year-old shot in the head in Clayton County

JONESBORO, Ga. — Police said a 4-year-old girl was shot in the head while riding inside her mother's van.

News Chopper 2 flew over the scene near Highway 54 and Fayetteville Road, where the girl's mother said she heard a loud pop, before noticing her daughter slumped down in the seat, Clayton County police said.

Police said the girl was airlifted to Egleston Children's Hospital.

Police told Channel 2's Tom Jones the gun used in the shooting came from inside of the van, but they initially thought the shot came from somewhere else. Police said three other children were inside of the van when the shooting happened.
