Z-DELETE,None - An Atlanta hospital has no explanation for why a patient's stolen wallet was found inside an employee locker room.
The patient, Nykita Hurt, wants to know who stole her wallet out of her purse while she was lying sick at Piedmont Hospital. She was missing credit cards, money and a necklace.
“I left the hospital just totally overwhelmed. I can’t tell you how I felt,” Hurt told Channel 2’s Eric Philips.
On Wednesday, Hurt went to Piedmont’s emergency room after she said mold in her apartment made her sick. She spent the night there and was transported to an inpatient room the next day.
“Somewhere between being in the emergency room and being admitted and transported to my room, my wallet went missing out of my purse,” Hurt said.
She didn’t realize it until Thursday morning when a nurse came to her room with her wallet. A hospital incident report said the nurse found it in an unsecured empty locker in the employee locker room. The wallet was nearly empty.
“Debit cards, some other credit cards, gift cards, my money,” Hurt said.
She was also missing a Tiffany necklace given to her by her daughter. She is convinced a hospital staffer stole the wallet.
“You have no heart because I’m in the hospital. I’m sick, so you’re having a hard time. I’m having a hard time, but you’re going to take something from me?” Hurt said.
She has filed reports with the Atlanta Police Department and the hospital. A Piedmont Hospital representative told Philips they’re not able to determine how Hurt’s wallet was lost, but as a courtesy the hospital has offered to reimburse her hundreds of dollars. Hurt said it’s not just about the money.
“I don’t want this to happen to anyone else, not at any hospital,” she said.
According to the hospital incident report, someone used Hurt’s debit card at an ATM inside the hospital Thursday. The investigation continues, but hospital officials said the employee locker room was unsecured so it’s tough to say who left the wallet inside the empty locker.
