DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None - Two parents were involved in a parking lot incident at Arabia Mountain High School early Tuesday, and one of the parents pulled a gun before leaving, the DeKalb school district said.
“Prior to the beginning of school, one of our parents was verbally threatened by another parent in the student parking lot,” McMillan wrote in her note later Tuesday. “In the midst of the conversation, one of the adults brandished a handgun.”
Joye Burton, a DeKalb schools spokeswoman, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution two students in the car of the parent without the gun ran to the school to tell the principal, who called the parent and police.
By the time McMillan reached the parking lot, the parent without the gun had already called DeKalb police, who were on the scene. The parent with the gun had already left, the spokeswoman said.
No reason was given for the confrontation between the two parents. Efforts were being made to reach the DeKalb County police to determine whether any arrests had been made.
The principal, who said the school takes the safety and security of students very seriously, said the school has increased patrol of the student parking lot. McMillan also asked students to provide information if they know about Tuesday’s incident.
