Woman believes men followed her from McDonald's before robbery

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Police in Sandy Springs are trying to find two men who robbed a woman at gunpoint after she says they followed her into her apartment complex late at night as she was getting home from work.

The victim, who asked Channel 2's Mike Petchenik not to identify her, said she wrapped up a late shift at her job and was pulling into her complex off Roberts Drive on Sept. 16 when she noticed a car following her.

“I noticed that every parking space that I stopped, they stopped with me,” the woman told Petchenik.

She said she figured it was another neighbor coming home, so she didn’t think much of it -- until she noticed two men running up to her with a gun.

“The male told me, ‘Don’t scream!’ That was my first reaction, I screamed,” she said. “He told me if I said something, he’d shoot. He told me to get back in the car. He told me to get back in the car and give him everything that I have.”

The victim told Petchenik she gave the men cash, her cellphone, credit cards and ID.

“I was so shocked that I just didn’t believe it,” she said. “My thing was to give him everything. When I saw the gun, I was like, ‘This is no joke.’”

Police told Petchenik they’ve made no arrests and the case is still an open, active investigation.

The victim said she believes the men spotted her grabbing a bite to eat at a McDonald’s on Roswell Road, then followed her home.

“It’s a dark road, a long road, and I think I was just an easy target,” she said.

The victim told Petchenik she’s glad she wasn’t hurt and she has this advice for other women.

“Check your rear-view mirror at all times and carry a weapon if you can,” she said.
