Thief steals truck, drives away with owner hanging off back, police say

ROSWELL, Ga. — Police say a truck thief drove around with the victim hanging off the back.

Channel 2′s Mike Petchenik tracked down a witness, who said it was a wild scene.

It happened as Chad Braswell stood in a downtown Roswell parking lot a few weeks ago.

“It was kind of spooky,” Braswell said. “I heard screeching, a loud bang, and as I turned around, this truck was coming caddy-corner across the curb.”

Braswell said he was shocked at what he saw next.

“I met eyes with the guy driving and he was pretty intent on coming across the parking lot. Kind of scary,” Braswell said. “As he passed me, there’s this guy hanging off the back of the truck bed for dear life.”

Police said the man hanging off the back of the truck was its owner.

Officer Sean Thompson said the victim was going to park his truck and a guy came out of nowhere and tried to get into his vehicle.

“At one point he thought there was a weed whacker in the truck bed, and he thought he was going to bust it through the window,” Thompson said. “There was a brief tussle inside the vehicle before the suspect was able to flee the vehicle.”

Officers arrived and quickly arrested 37-year-old Jason Frymyer for robbery, carjacking and fleeing and eluding. Police took Frymyer to the hospital for an evaluation. He has several warrants for his arrest when he gets out in both Fulton and Forsyth Counties.
