SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A Sandy Springs police officer is recovering after a car clipped him during a traffic stop.
Dashcam video released to Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik shows the incident Friday around 8:50 p.m. on Roswell near Morgan Falls roads.
“He was in a right turn lane and he was out of the roadway, but the vehicle came by in the right travel lane and struck him with the mirror,” said Sgt. Sam Worsham, with the Sandy Springs Police Department.
Worsham said Officer Leon Millholland, a member of the department’s DUI task force, went to the hospital.
“The officer is very lucky he only had minor injuries,” Worsham said.

He said the vehicle, a blue sedan, continued onto Morgan Falls Road and then into Adair Lane before disappearing.
Worsham said if and when police catch the driver, the individual will be facing hit-and-run charges.
“Any time you see an emergency vehicle, be it fire, police, ambulance, if it’s on the side of the road, lights on, please move over, or at least slow down and avoid the officers,” Worsham said.
