R. Kelly says he's learned his lesson after former friend accused of emptying homes

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — R&B singer R. Kelly is thanking fans for their support after police said a former friend cleaned out his two homes and sold everything.

Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik broke the story last week that police had issued warrants for Alphonso Walker on charges he hired movers to liquidate every room in Kelly’s two Johns Creek rental homes.

In a short video posted on his Instagram page, Kelly addressed the incident.

“I’m at my house right now in Atlanta where they done basically cleaned out my whole house,” he said.

Kelly’s camera then panned to a ransacked living room.

“It’s what happens when you get, well, let people too close to you,” he said. “People you’ve known for 25 to 30 years, this is what happens.”

Police said Walker, a handyman and aspiring musician, felt Kelly owed him money, so he went room by room through his homes, selling off furniture, furnishings and memorabilia, including a diamond-encrusted hoodie.

Walker turned himself into the Fulton County jail Monday, but sheriff’s officials said he was immediately taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for an unspecified illness and has yet to make his first appearance at the jail. He’s facing burglary and theft charges.

Kelly gave a nod to his fans in the short video.

“I want to thank all my fans for their support,” he said.
