Roswell police save woman forced into van by masked gunmen

ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell police say they rescued a woman who was forced into the back of a van by armed men.

Officers told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik that four masked men grabbed a 67-year-old woman on Wednesday night as she left the rear entrance of her diamond business on East Crossville Road.

The attackers forced the woman into the back of a black van, which was spotted by officers who responded to the scene.

Fortunately, the woman's son witnessed the kidnapping and called Roswell police who arrived in less than a minute.

Police intercepted the van and it smashed into a tree on Holcomb Bridge Road and the group raced away on foot leaving the victim behind, police say. Police were able to grab one of the suspects.

The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but her son told a neighboring business owner that she was assaulted and beaten up. A neighbor told Petchenik that her husband recently died.

Police say the van was stolen last week from a hotel in Cobb County.
