Police: Stolen car used in GameStop smash-and-grab

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are looking for thieves who used a stolen car as a battering ram to break into a video game store.

Surveillance video shows the thieves driving through the front of the GameStop on Roswell Road in the Prado Shopping Center on Dec. 24.

"We had the gate down," manager Jacob Powell told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik. "They kind of stole a car and bumped it up into here and pushed the window down."

Powell said they did significant damage to the store.

“They caused a lot more in property damage than they did in taking anything of value,” he said.

Police told Petchenik that the thieves had stolen the Dodge Charger from a location in Atlanta and left it at the scene after the smash-and-grab.

“A little more than $5,000 taken in two minutes,” said Sgt. Sam Worsham. “Stole several gaming platforms, consoles, steering wheels and controllers.”

Worsham said the suspects wore masks and had gloves on, so they left no prints behind.

“Detectives are following several leads,” he said.

GameStop customers told Petchenik the crime was brazen.

“Driving a car in, that’s crazy,” said Danny Grieco. “I think it’s unfair. People pay a lot of money and they just come in here and take it.”
