Police: Student accused of raping juvenile classmate

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities arrested an 18-year-old accused of sexually assaulting a classmate on Wednesday.

According to Milton Police, they were notified of a sexual assault by Northside Forsyth Hospital.

Officers and detectives determined the assault happened at Mill Springs Academy, described as a school for students “who have not realized their full potential in traditional classroom settings.”

Police say they interviewed the victim and other parties, and determined that probable cause existed to pursue criminal charges.

On Wednesday, Milton detectives arrested 18-year-old Evan Smith, of Roswell, on charges of rape and statutory rape. He is being held in the Fulton County Jail.

Based on the investigation, police believe the alleged assault was not a random act. Smith, a student at Mill Springs Academy, and the victim knew each other.

Police said there is no indication that any other students have been assaulted by the suspect.
