Police: Man slapped teenager in face at Alpharetta store

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Alpharetta Police are searching for a man who randomly slapped a teenager in the face at a local store.

Jasmin Cruz, 14, and her mother told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik they were shopping at a Walmart Grocery store on Dec. 5, when another man, who they believe is a teen, slapped her across the face.

“He came to the left of me and hit me with his right hand,” she said.  “He slapped me with whipped cream.”

Cruz said the suspect laughed at her and then ran out of the store.

“I was crying,” she said.  “It was kind of embarrassing, too, because people were around there watching.

Alpharetta police told Petchenik they’ve obtained surveillance video of the attack, they’ve identified a tag on a car they believe belongs to the suspect and a friend of the suspect is also speaking to detectives.

“It’s unlawful and if we determine that this person committed this crime, then we will take the appropriate charge,” said Alpharetta Department of Public Safety spokesman, George Gordon.

Gordon said police believe the attacker and some friends discussed doing something via social media before the incident.

“I can’t even imagine somebody coming up and doing that to somebody’s daughter while they’re mother’s there with them shopping,” he said.

Cruz said she hopes police catch the attacker who left a large welt on her cheek.

“I think that’s just dumb,” she said.  “They shouldn’t go around randomly slapping people they don’t know.”
