Police: Man going 112 mph tells officer he was 'trying to do a Snapchat'

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Alpharetta police said a man’s attempt to show off to his friends on social media landed him in jail.

Police said they pulled Malon Neal over Tuesday night on Ga. 400 near Mansell after clocking him going 112 mph in a 65 mph zone.

“The reason I stopped you is I’d love to see where you’re heading in such a hurry,” the officer can be heard telling Neal.

“I am trying do a Snapchat,” he told the officer. “I’m not going to lie to you.”

Neal was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving, speeding, and for using his phone while driving.

“You’re being placed under arrest for driving that fast man,” the officer told Neal. “Reckless driving -- 112 mph in a 65. (You) can’t be doing that, man”

Police said Neal is lucky he didn’t hurt or kill someone.

“It’s reckless endangerment to the motoring public,” said Gordon. “Could have caused a serious injury crash.”

Petchenik contacted Neal, and Neal responded via e-mail that he wanted to tell his side of the story. As of Friday afternoon, Petchenik had not yet heard back from the Alpharetta man.

Driver Cullen Chen, who was taking his street racing car to a show this weekend, told Petchenik he can’t believe someone would Snapchat going that fast.

“That’s just stupid,” he said. “I definitely would not be on my phone going that speed.”
