Neighbors on alert after bear seen swimming in lake

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A local community is on alert after a bear was seen swimming in a lake.

The city of Alpharetta put out a warning to neighbors after a black bear was spotted swimming across Lake Windward.

"Having grandchildren, it does scare me a little bit. I don’t think I’ll be letting them out of my sight," said resident Leslie Radford.

Alpharetta city leaders posted about the bear Wednesday. A photo of the large black bear has circulated on social media.

Residents have been told to not let pet food sit out, take away birdfeeders and clean barbecue grills.

In March, we told you about another bear spotted in a Buckhead neighborhood off Northside Parkway. A resident posted video of it looking for bird feeders and dubbed it the "Neighborhood Bear."

While kids are excited about the spotting, neighbors think they know what it was up to.

"It could be the heat. It must be hot with fur, must be trying got cool off," Radford said.

The city said it was spotted a few times near Alpharetta High School this week too. Their advice is to please stay away and in addition to other tips, make sure garbage isn't left out.
