Police: Man jumps from moving car during chase, leaving girlfriend

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. — A Dawsonville man faces charges after police said he led officers on a chase and bailed from a moving truck, leaving his girlfriend in the passenger seat.

Dash cam video from the Oct. 25 incident shows an officer spot Jason Robinson driving in a white pickup truck.

Jason Robinson is accused of jumping out of his moving pickup truck, abandoning girlfriend

“Uniformed patrol officer was on McGinnis Ferry, saw a truck that drew his attention,” Captain Chris Byers told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik, “Ran the tag. The tag ultimately came back stolen.”

The video shows the officer try to pull Robinson over.

Byers said Robinson’s girlfriend was able to reach across the console to put the brakes on, and was quick to give police her boyfriend’s name.

“Ultimately he was captured a short time later when we had other jurisdictions come and assist us with their K9s and he was tackled a short time later,” said Byers.

Byers said Robinson had outstanding warrants in other counties and had methamphetamine with him in the vehicle.

“Just leaving the vehicle like that, leaving someone in the car, luckily she was able to cross over the seat and hit the brake before it left the parking lot,” said Byers. “(It was) absolutely, completely dangerous to do something like that."

Police said Robinson’s girlfriend isn’t facing any charges.
