Local schools to use new security app directly connected to police

The new app Fulton County schools will use to keep students safe

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Fulton County school officials hope a new app will help keep kids safe in class.

This year will mark the first school year where students and staff will be able to report tips to Fulton County school police anonymously using an app on their phone.

Fulton County Schools Director of Safety and Security Shannon Flounnory said he hopes the app can stop a range of bad student behavior.

"Whether it's students doing things they shouldn't be doing, potential fights, potential situations regarding drug abuse," Flounnory said.

But Flounnory said many times kids don't want to speak up.

Enter, the QuickTip app. It is a fast, anonymous way for anyone to report something suspicious to Fulton County school police.

"It could be something as simple as we see a door open every day, take us a picture of it, and send it to us," Flounnory said.

Anyone can download it on their smart phone through the Fulton County schools app or access it online. The district launched it quietly last year and Flounorry says they've had some successes. He hopes to continue into this school year.

"We were able to be proactive in intercepting behaviors based upon the anonymous tips we received," Flounnory said.

School officials say the mantra is if students see something, they should say something.
